Garment accessories exporters in Bangladesh are demanding cash incentives from the Government to flourish their exports. The issue was raised by Bangladesh Garment Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association, President Abdul Kader on the sidelines of the recently held four-day ‘Garments Accessories and Packaging Expo (GAPEXPO) 2017’.
The President of BGAPMEA said cash incentives are much needed, considering the contribution of the sector in overall exports from Bangladesh. “Garment accessories, a sub-sector of apparel industry works closely with the sector as a strong backward linkage industry, adding, “We have contributed USD $ 6.12 billion to the total RMG export in the last fiscal year but the sector did not enjoy cash incentives against export of accessories products.”
Responding to that, Tofail Ahmed, Commerce Minister of Bangladesh said, “I will collect information about the garment accessories from the Export Promotion Bureau and send it to the Finance Ministry with recommendation to provide cash incentives to the exporters,”.
