Japanese apparel imports start 2017 on positive lines

January 2017 turned out to be a really solid gainer in terms of global apparel imports by Japan. During the month, the country registered massive growth on Y-o-Y basis both value-wise and volume-wise.

In value terms, the country rose by 13.02 per cent to 286,640,990 Yen as against 253,625,188 Yen in the first month of 2016. Quantities of apparel too surged by 16.84 per cent to 633,048,029 kgs if compared to 541,824,562 kgs in the corresponding month last year.

Both knitted and woven apparels witnessed hike in values and volumes. Knitted apparels import by Japan noted hike of 12.82 per cent in values and 17.05 per cent in volumes on Y-o-Y basis. Whereas, woven category was also up by 13.20 per cent value-wise and 16.22 per cent volume-wise.

Japan, after witnessing a sluggish 2016, recorded such strong apparel imports as there was increase in domestic clothing demand due to the holiday season in the country.
