In the first three quarters of 2016 ending on September 30th, Indian exports of foundation garments to the US showed a consistent upward trend. While the volumes were up 16.65 per cent, values increased by 26.2 per cent to US $ 99 million year on year. During the period, total imports in the category by the US were however down quantitatively by (-) 1.62 per cent and values saw a marginal increase of 0.80 per cent.

But the situation was entirely different for India when it came to exports under the category to the European Union in the first eight months of 2016. Although, quantity-wise the country registered a growth rate of 4.61 per cent but it lost in value by a considerable margin of (-) 10.02 per cent year on year.
It may also be noted that EU’s total imports in the category grew by 3.18 per cent in terms of volume and by 0.37 per cent in terms of value in the period under review.
