Bangladesh Govt. mulls to launch weaving village

Bangladesh Government is planning to launch “Weaving Village” at Shibchar in Madaripur and Janjira in Shariutpur. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina informed this while speaking at the National Council 2017 of Bangladesh Tanti League organized at Krishibid Institution Auditorium in Dhaka.

“We want to develop and enrich the industry further… We have an attention to achieve the goal and we would do everything necessary for it,” she added. The PM also urged male members of the country to wear clothes made by local weavers and called for modernizing and enriching the country’s weaving industry.

At the event, she also highlighted various steps taken by the Government for the welfare of the weaving and the handloom industries. BDT 49,26,000 were distributed among some 142 weavers, while a project worth BDT 41.55 crore has been undertaken to set up a fashion design and a textile institute, and a basic centre, she highlighted.
