In a move to reduce the dependence of country’s producers on foreign testing agencies, Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) has unveiled Designated Reference Institute for Chemical Measurements (DRiCM) – a first-of-its-kind ‘Proficiency Testing’ mechanism for the labs across the country. The Proficiency Testing is an objective mechanism for a lab to compare and accordingly calibrate its performance with others for same test. It allows a lab to investigate any outlier results, identify the root cause(s) of the problem and improve the performance where needed, reported a leading Bangladeshi daily.

Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh attended the launch ceremony of the DRiCM, BCSIR as the chief guest while Science and Technology Ministry Secretary Serajul Haque Khan spoke at the occasion as the special guest. Senior Scientific Officer (SSO). “The producers will no longer need to go to foreign testing institutes for products’ proficiency tests,” averred Dr. Mala Khan, In-charge of DRiCM, BCSIR, while presenting a keynote paper at the launch ceremony. The event also featured BCSIR Chairman Md Nazrul Islam.
