Same-store sales decline 0.3% at Uniqlo

Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo has reported that its same-store sales has plunged by around 0.3 per cent in the month of March. However, sales at its own stores surged by 0.6 per cent. Total sales including online sales rose by 2.5 per cent. In the period under review, the company opened two new stores and closed three in Japan.

Staying optimistic about the market, Uniqlo is capitalizing on the early arrival of warm weather and has launched its all new Spring assortments such as bottoms, knitwear and staple cut, and sew items. Further to this, the fashion brand recently made a declaration that it will soon be opening its first ever Global Flagship Store in Singapore, and in the Southeast Asia region. It is also collaborating with various international artists like Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, to create a complete new line-up of graphic men’s T-shirts.

These moves highlight the fact that Uniqlo is making changes in its strategy to walk in line with changing market scenarios. Uniqlo is a casual wear designer, manufacturer and retailer. The company has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. since November 2005.
